In March 2017, the Southern California Special Operations Unit, the San Bernardino County Gang Intelligence Team and numerous other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, began an investigation targeting the Westside Verdugo criminal street gang based out of San Bernardino County. Westside Verdugo is a violent street gang involved in murder, major assaults, gun trafficking, the sale of illegal narcotics and human trafficking.
The goal of the operation was to identify Westside Verdugo gang members and associates involved in violent crime and disrupt all illegal gang activity. Investigators utilized investigative resources to infiltrate the gang's criminal activities and prevented violent crimes including robbery, car-jacking and major assaults. Additionally, investigators identified the Westside Verdugo hierarchy who are controlling the criminal activity within the California State Prisons. Furthermore, the intelligence obtained during this investigation of the Westside Verdugo hierarchy will benefit the Gang Intelligence Team and other law enforcement agencies in the County of San Bernardino as they continue to combat criminal street gang activity and keep our communities safe.
As the investigation concludes, the operation resulted in the following arrests and seizures:
Arrests- 86 Total (81 Felony, 5 Misdemeanor)
Firearms- 43 (5 assault weapons, 30 handguns, 3 rifles, 5 shotguns)
Ammunition- 4,875 rounds
Cocaine – 22 lbs.
Black Tar Heroin- 4.7 lbs.
Marijuana- 402 lbs.
Methamphetamine- 112 lbs.
U.S. Currency- $29,600
Stolen Vehicles- 4
Crimes Prevented- 5
The following law enforcement agencies were involved in this operation; California Department of Justice, California Highway Patrol, San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department, San Bernardino Police Department, Fontana Police Department, San Bernardino County Probation, Federal Bureau of Investigations, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office.
