INCIDENT: Clean up operation - Mojave Riverbed in Victorville

LOCATION: Mojave Riverbed, Victorville, CA

During the weekend of May 31, 2014, the San Bernardino County Sheriffs Department, in collaboration with the City of Victorville, will assist in a clean up operation of the Mojave Riverbed.  The operation originated from community based organizations  who on their own initiative began working with the homeless population in the Mojave Riverbed to begin cleaning up the area.  The Sheriff's department HOPE Team, over the past several weeks has handed out hundreds of trashbags in the riverbed, many of which have been filled and staged for disposal by the homeless population living there.  The Sheriff's Dept. fire crews and work release crews will clean debris left at abandoned camps along with other trash in the area.  The City of Victorville will provide several dumpsters to dispose of the debris.

No homeless residents will be displaced during the operation, nor will the operation affect their personal property.  The Homeless Outreach and Proactive Enforcement team has been working to assist homeless in the area to link them with resources that can help transition them from homelessness.
