On Friday, May 2, 2014, at about 6:18 p.m., a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision occurred on Alta Loma Drive west of Garnet Street, in Rancho Cucamonga. A three year old male juvenile from South Pasadena was with his parents visiting relatives who live on Alta Loma. The juvenile was on the north side of Alta Loma just west of Garnet with another family member when he started to cross the street to the south. A forty-four year old Rancho Cucamonga resident was driving his 2006 Dodge Pickup westbound on Alta Loma. The juvenile entered the roadway in front of the truck. The pickup struck the juvenile and drug him several feet before the driver realized what happened and came to a stop.

Paramedics with the Rancho Cucamonga Fire Department immediately responded to the scene and found the juvenile deceased in the roadway. The exact cause of the child’s death will be determined by the coroner. The juvenile’s family witnessed the collision.

Investigators with the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) are investigating the collision. At this point, it is unknown if speed was a contributing factor but it does not appear alcohol was involved. The driver of the pickup truck was not cited. Upon completion, a report will be submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
