San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department

Press Release

DATE/TIME: Thursday, June 5, 2014

INCIDENT: Grand Theft

LOCATION: Baseline between Palm and 210 Freeway

SUSPECT: Unknown, white or hispanic male, 20-40 years old wearing a white T shirt and shorts

VICTIM: City of Highland

A witness reported seeing a  male with a roll of copper wire running through the CVS parking lot.  The witness confronted the suspect, who dropped the wire and ran across Palm and through the Auto Zone lot.  Deputies responded but were unable to locate the suspect.   The wire turned out to be new, long strands of multi-colored insulated copper.  A search of the area was conducted to locate a victim and more piles of the same wire were found in the newly landscaped center medians of Baseline between the 210 Freeway and Palm.  Deputies believe the suspect accessed the in ground electrical boxes, pulled all the wire, then staged it in the bushes for later pickup.

Anyone who may have information on the identity or whereabouts of the suspect is asked to contact the Highland Police Department.
