Summary

During a downpour that occurred on 07-04-14 at about 1400 hours, Yucaipa deputies received a call of subjects possibly trapped in a vehicle in the flood control channel at Avenue D and 11th Street. When deputies arrived,  they discovered that a homeless couple, 49-year-old Kevin Kurtz and 53-year-old Darcy Price, who were living in the flood control channel had been trapped by the rising water, but were rescued by Good Samaritans.  No vehicle was involved.

The three good Samaritans, Justin French, Austin Chaffins, and Cole Erautt, all 17 years of age, were in the area when they heard the couple's cries for help and went into the fast moving, rapidly rising water to rescue the couple and bring them to safety.  The victims were transported by ambulance to Redlands Community Hospital. The three good Samaritans were not injured.
