Incident:      Update - Death Investigation ruled a Suicide

Location:     Hwy 138 east of Summit Valley Road

Victim:     Philip Alexander Smyth, 50-years-old, Aliso Viejo



On Wednesday, July 9, 2014 the autopsy was completed on Philip Smyth and the manner of death was determined to be suicide.



On Sunday, July 6, 2014, at approximately 5:00 A.M., the California Highway Patrol, San Bernardino County Fire, and deputies from the Victor Valley Sheriff's Station were dispatched to investigate a possible traffic collision on Hwy 138 east of Summit Valley Road.  When they arrived on scene they discovered a vehicle on the side of the road with a deceased subject at the vehicle.  Specialized investigators from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Homicide Detail responded to investigate. 


Detectives positively identified the deceased as 50-year-old Philip Alexander Smyth.
