Incident:     Suspect arrested for grand theft auto after fleeing into the forest.

On Friday, July 4, 2014, at approximately 3:15p.m.,  Deputies from the Big Bear Station spotted a 2001 Dodge truck which was reported stolen out of the City of Highland. As deputies attempted to catch up to the vehicle the driver,  later identified as 50 -year-old James Callahan, pulled into the Discovery Center. Callahan and passengers fled on foot into the forest.   Two detectives from the Big Bear Station who were in unmarked vehicles waited in the area for the driver to return.   Approximately 15 minutes later, Callahan, along with his female passenger and 8 year old child, returned to the vehicle.   Callahan was arrested for grand theft auto and booked into the Big Bear Jail.  The passenger and child were taken to the Big Bear Station and released.
