On Monday, January 27, 2014, at approximately 9:43 p.m., deputies from the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station responded to the report of a shooting in the 6300 block of Palmview Avenue in Twenty-nine Palms. Upon arrival, deputies located an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Medical personnel responded to the location and pronounced the victim deceased.
The suspect was also located at the scene, detained by deputies and subsequently arrested without incident.
Detectives from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Homicide Detail responded to the location and are currently conducting the investigation. Investigators have determined that the victim and the suspect were involved in an argument prior to the shooting.
Raymond Burney was transported and booked into the West Valley Detention Center for PC187 Murder. Deputies
discovered the suspect, Raymond Burney, was on supervised probation for
possession of cocaine base for sales as a result of California Assembly Bill
part of Governor Jerry Brown’s Realignment Plan, or Assembly Bill 109, to
comply with a U.S. Supreme Court decision requiring the state to lower its
prison population by 30,000; offenders with non-violent, non-sexual and non-serious
convictions will serve reduced sentences in county jails and be placed on local
supervision through county Probation.
