On February 24, 2014 at approximately 2:30 a.m., Diego was walking home from a friend’s house when he was confronted in the roadway by the two suspects. According to the victim, Chavez presented a knife and demanded money and property. During the encounter the victim attempted to flee but was restrained by the suspects, who took the property he was carrying, bags of clothing and an ATM card.
After being released by the suspects the victim was able to call 911. Responding Deputies, Jessup, Kling, Chandler and Glozer responded to the area and located the suspects nearby. One of the suspects attempted to flee on foot but was quickly captured.
Both suspects were booked at the Big Bear Station Jail on felony charges of PC 211 – Robbery. Suspect Chavez is also on felony probation and may face additional charges. Wardlaw and Chavez remain in custody at West Valley Detention Center in lieu of $100,000 bail each. An arraignment hearing in this matter is set for February 26 at San Bernardino County Superior Court.
