On August 26th and 27th, 2014, the Chino Hills Police/Sheriff Station along with the Chino Valley Fire Department conducted an “Active Shooter Training Exercise” at the Harkins Theater. The purpose of the drill was to prepare first responders for active shooter events where communication and partnership between the parties is critical. Dispatch personnel from both Police and Fire were utilized to simulate radio communication and dispatch Police and Fire units to the incident.
The event was the result of a great deal of planning which included personnel from The Rancho Cucamonga and Chino Hills Police / Sheriff’s Stations. Nearly 100 volunteers participated as role players in the event which added to the realism of the incident.
The Harkins Theater partnered with the coordinators of the event and provided their facility as the training venue. The event was made available to local agencies and over 80 officers and Firefighters participated in the training. This type of training is offered annually by the Chino Hills Police / Sheriff’s Station in addition to training facilitated by other Sheriff’s Stations or police agencies.
