INCIDENT: Near Drowning

LOCATION: Juniper Point, Big Bear Lake

VICTIM(S): Lynnette Crandal

Summary

On Thursday, July 31, 2014 at approximately 5:45 p.m., deputies from the Big Bear Sheriff's Station and personnel from the Lake Patrol responded to the report of a possible drowning at Juniper Point in Big Bear Lake. Upon arrival, they observed a male subject, later identified as Dan Lauder, assisting the female swimmer, later identified as Lynette Crandal. The two of them made their way back to shore and did not require medical attention.

Deputies were advised that Lynette Crandal was on her paddle board near Juniper Point and fell from the board. As she fell the paddle board was forced out away from her. As she attempted to swim to the board the wind carried the board further away causing her to panic. Mr. Lauder witnessed her struggling and immediately swam out approximately 50 yards to assist her. If it were not for the the assistance of Mr. Lauder the outcome could have been much worse.
