Yucaipa City Deputies responded to the report of possible vehicle burglars in the 12000 Block of 2nd St. Witnesses reported seeing two male subject using flashlights to rummage through vehicles located on Yucaipa Valley Water District property. During an area check, deputies located two males and a Silver Hyundai sedan, matching the witness description. The two males were detained and identified as Cornelius Denhollander and Carlos Ojeda, both of Yucaipa. Inside their vehicle, deputies located multiple water valves, fixtures, paperwork, vehicle batteries and tools which belonged to the water district. Deputies determined the suspects had cut a hole in the perimeter fence to the rear of district yard to make entry. Once inside, they stole items from several vehicles (to include vehicle batteries and registration) and pried the side of a metal shed open to gain entry. Inside the shed, they stole the tools, fixtures and valves. All items were identified by water district employees. The items were recovered and returned. The total value of recovered property was estimated to exceed $10,000.
Both suspects were booked at Central Detention Center for Conspiracy, Burglary and Possession of Stolen Property. It was also discovered that Ojeda was on active probation out of Riverside County for prior charges related to Theft/Burglary.
