Press Release

DATE OF RELEASE:      April 1, 2014

INCIDENT:                       Yucaipa Police Bicycle Safety Rodeo

Summary

During the month of April, Yucaipa Police will focus on enforcing the bicycle and skateboard helmet law within the City of Yucaipa. This education and enforcement program is to raise safety awareness to youthful bicycle and skateboard riders.

Bicycle helmets are 85 to 88 percent effective in preventing head and brain injuries, making the use of helmets the single most effective way to reduce head injuries and fatalities resulting from bicycle and skateboard crashes.

The patrol and traffic deputies will be contacting and warning offenders throughout the month and inviting them to the Annual Bicycle Rodeo and Safety Fair held on April 26th, 2014, from 10:00 am – 2:00pm, in the parking lot of the Yucaipa Community Center, located at 34900 Oak Glen Rd., in the City of Yucaipa. The event will provide free bicycle inspections and tune-ups, food, bicycle helmets, prizes, an obstacle course, static emergency equipment displays, Sheriff's Aviation, and games sponsored by local businesses and community service groups.
