On Tuesday September 17, 2013, at approximately 08:16 p.m., Victorville Deputies were dispatched to a report of an unknown injury vehicle collision on Palmdale Rd, east of US 395 in the City of Victorville.
When deputies arrived they found Michael Maldonado and Aylssa Florez lying in the street with severe traumatic injuries. Through investigation it was discovered Robert Gay was traveling eastbound on Palmdale Rd from US 395 in a red Honda Accord. Maldonado and Florez were attempting to cross Palmdale Rd running southbound. Gay’s vehicle struck Maldonado and Florez causing serious injuries to both. Gay immediately stopped his vehicle and waited for emergency personnel to arrive. Maldonado and Florez were immediately transported to local hospitals. Florez was pronounced dead at the hospital. Maldonado is currently recovering at a trauma center.
At this time it does not appear alcohol or drugs played a factor in this collision. Deputies are still investigating if Gay’s Vehicles’ speed played a factor in the collision.
Palmdale Rd was closed to traffic in both directions in the area of the collision until approximately 01:58 a.m. This is an ongoing investigation by the Victorville Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT). Deputies are looking to interview anyone who may have witnessed this collision occur. Anyone with information about the collision is requested to contact Deputy Mooradian at 760-955-3128.
