On Saturday September 14, 2013, at approximately 11:00 a.m., the victim and the suspect, Eric Freeman, allegedly got into a domestic dispute at a residence in the 7800 block of La Nita Street in the City of Highland. Eric hit the victim in her head and face with his open hands and fist and stepped on the victim’s throat as she was lying on the ground. This assault caused extensive swelling and bruising to the victim's face, ears, head and throat. The suspect reportedly told the victim he was going to kill her during the assault.
The victim was able to escape the house when an unknown friend came to the residence. The victim flagged down a passerby and was taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. Medical staff from the hospital immediately notified sheriff’s dispatch of the incident.
Highland Deputies made contact with the victim and escorted her back to her residence. Because of the situation the victim left the location without her keys. Deputies knocked on the door with no response. Deputies received permission from the victim to enter the residence through an unlocked bedroom window. Freeman was located inside the residence and taken into custody without incident. Freeman was booked into Central Detention Center for Attempt Murder and Domestic Violence.
