On Friday, September 27, 2013, between the hours of 6:00pm and 10:00pm, Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station Bicycle Enforcement Team members Sergeants Jim Evans and Tim Visosky and Deputies Dana Weinberg and John Gice conducted bicycle enforcement in the City of Adelanto.
During the four (4) hour enforcement period, over 30 public contacts were made and security checks were made on numerous business. The following arrests were made:
Jeffrey Arnold, 47 year of age, for possession of dangerous drugs
Ramon Hernandez, 26 years of age, for possession of Marijuana
Shanti Nicholas, 21 years of age, for possession of a loaded handgun
Yousef Mohamed, 32 years of age, for being drunk in public
Mojave Air Quality Management District generously donated the fully equipped patrol bicycles. In addition, thanks to donations made by the Silver Lakes Association and Spring Valley Lake Association, a new trailer for the bicycles was purchased.
The City of Adelanto allocated money from the Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) to fund this patrol operation.
These bicycle patrol operations will make deputies more accessible to the community members. Captain Phil Brown believes in a visible, community friendly approach to policing. Deputy Dana Weinberg, who works for the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station and is assigned to the Silver Lakes Community, contacted members of the above agencies when he saw an opportunity to provide additional patrol procedures, offering a more personal approach.
