Incident:    Subject Arrested for Cold Case Murder of 5 Month Old

Location:    San Bernardino

Suspect(s):    Chris Kringle Tilghman, 50-year-old resident of Riverside County

Victim(s):    Cole Terpack, 5-month-old resident of San Bernardino





On August 3, 1990, at approximately 2040 hours, paramedics were called to 1417 N. Acacia Street, San Bernardino regarding a baby not breathing. Cole Terpack was found unconscious and not breathing. Terpack suffered from starvation and numerous broken bones.  Terpack was transported to St. Bernadine’s Medical Center, but succumbed to his injuries.  San Bernardino Police Department Homicide Detectives investigated the homicide in 1990, but it remained unsolved. 


In 2013, the Sheriff’s Cold Case Team assisting San Bernardino Police detectives reopened the investigation, and re-examined the evidence.  The result of the investigation led to Chris Kringle Tilghman as the suspect.  Tilghman was arrested on Friday, November 1, 2013, at about 1700 hours, and booked into the West Valley Detention Center on a no bail, murder warrant.

The Sheriff’s Cold Case Team consists of two detectives, two deputy district attorney’s and a criminalist.  The Cold Case Team is funded in part through a $500,000 “Solving Cold Cases with DNA” grant from the US Department of Justice.
