Incident:               Sheriff's Patrol Unit Involved Traffic Collision

Location:              Hermosa Avenue north of Fourth Street, Rancho Cucamonga

Involved Party:    San Bernardino County Sheriff's Deputy

Involved Party:    Brian Lane, age 60 a resident of Redlands


On Friday, November 29, 2013, a deputy from the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department was in route to an armed robbery that had occurred in the 9000 block of Hermosa.  The deputy was travelling southbound on Hermosa in the #2 lane when a semi truck also travelling south bound on Hermosa in the #1 lane, made a right hand turn into the path of the sheriff’s unit.  The deputy was unable to stop in time and struck the passenger side of the tractor.  Both vehicles came to rest in the parking lot the big rig was attempting to enter. 


The deputy sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local area hospital for treatment.  The deputy is expected to recover from his injuries.


The Region 1 Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to the location.  The cause of the collision is under investigation, it does not appear drugs or alcohol was involved.


The driver of the semi truck was not injured during the collision.
