INCIDENT:        Night Vision Hoist SAR Mission

 

LOCATION:       Bertha Peak, Big Bear Area

Summary

On Monday, November 18, 2013, at approximately 4:40 p.m., the desert airship, 40King5,  was requested to respond to a Search & Rescue at Bertha Peak, near Big Bear Lake.  Deputies Landry(Pilot) and Carney(Crew Chief) arrived a few minutes later and located the victim.  The victim was stranded on a ridgeline, miles from any road or trail.  The temperature was about 40 degrees and dropping.  The victim had been stranded for a few days and had not had any food or water in that time. 

 

king landed at the Big Bear airport and rigged for the hoist.  The valley ship arrived and Deputy Stine assumed the role of Hoist Rider. Deputy Stine was lowered to the victim, the victim was placed in a Screamer Suit, hoisted up and dropped off to an awaiting patrol deputy at the Big Bear airport.  Stine was hoisted with the victim’s belongings up to the ship and dropped off.

 

The victim was not injured.
