Deputies kept the peace during a protest at the GEO Group, Inc. Adelanto Detention Facility after about 50 demonstrators forced their way onto facility grounds, which are private property.
Officials from the GEO group contacted the Sheriff’s Department regarding the trespassers and wanted them removed from their property. The group was informed they were trespassing on private property but they remained. Several dispersal orders were given in English, and in Spanish, and all but 3 women willfully left the property. Those 3 women had locked themselves to a gate at the GEO Group detention facility and refused to leave.
All of the other protestors were successfully moved from the facility without any altercation. There were no injuries, as no physical contact was made with any of the protestors. The fire department responded and successfully removed the women from the fence without any injuries to the women.
Officials from the GEO Group, Inc. Adelanto Detention Facility signed a citizens’ arrest form and the women were taken into custody for trespassing. Officials also pressed charges for the damage done to the fence while removing the women.
Mitzie Perez, 22, Silvia Murillo, 20, and Lizeth Montiel, 20, were booked at West Valley Detention Center for trespassing and vandalism.
