On Monday, October 30, 2013, at approximately 9:20 p.m., Yucaipa City Deputies responded to the report of a Vehicle vs. Pedestrian collision in the 12000 block of 14th Street in the City of Yucaipa. Upon arrival, deputies located an unidentified female pedestrian lying in the roadway. Fire and emergency medical personnel also responded to the scene and began life saving efforts. The pedestrian was transported by ambulance to Redlands Community Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
The Sheriff’s Department Region I Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to the collision and assumed the investigation.
Although preliminary, investigators have learned that prior to the collision, the pedestrian had been walking along the northbound lane of 14th Street. At that same time, the vehicle involved was also travelling northbound on 14th Street towards Yucaipa Boulevard. For an unknown reason, the pedestrian entered the roadway in front of the approaching vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was unable to avoid the pedestrian and the front of his vehicle struck her causing her to fall to the roadway.
The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office is assisting Sheriff’s investigators in determining the identification of the pedestrian.
The exact cause of this collision is unknown at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
