During the evening hours of Saturday, December 28, 2013, the Yucaipa Police Department conducted a checkpoint with grant funding from the State of California Office of Traffic Safety Sobriety / Driver's License Checkpoint Program, administered by UC Berkeley. The checkpoint was conducted on Yucaipa Blvd and 13th Street. A total of 1619 vehicles were contacted. One driver was arrested for driving under the influence, 9 arrests were made for driving with either a suspended driver's license or none issued, 40 citations for mulitiple violations were issued, 3 vehicles were towed, and one arrest for outstanding warrants.
The purpose of these checkpoints is to apprehend impaired drivers who are operating vehicles while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, cite unlicensed driver's and to reduce the number of victims killed or injured in alcohol-involved collisions.
