VOTING OPTIONS

Voters in San Bernardino County have three voting options: 

1. Vote Early at:

San Bernardino County Elections Office
777 E. Rialto Avenue, San Bernardino, CA 92415

• Monday through Friday,  8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• May 14, 2013 Special General Election State Senate District 32 Early Voting begins April 15, 2013
• June 4, 2013 Special District Election Early Voting begins May 6, 2013

2. Vote by Mail:

To vote by mail, you must be either a permanent mail ballot voter or request a mail ballot for this election only. To apply for a mail ballot, complete, sign, and return a Mail Ballot Application [pdf]. The Mail Ballot Application can also be found on the back of your Voter Information Guide and Sample Ballot, completed, signed, and returned by mail to our office.

• Mail Ballot Application deadline is May 7, 2013 for the May 14, 2013  Special General Election for State Senate District 32.
• Mail Ballots will be delivered to voters' mailboxes April 12, 2013.
• Mail Ballots must be returned to the Elections Office by 8 p.m. on Election Day by:
  • Mailing via the U.S. Postal Service by May 7, 2013. Postage is 65 cents at the First Class rate.
  • Delivering to any San Bernardino County library, any city clerk office, or the San Bernardino Elections Office during regular business hours. Find a Mail Ballot Drop-off location.
  • Delivering to any San Bernardino County polling place on Election Day.  Find your polling place location or sample ballot using our look-up tool.

Cancel Your Permanent Mail Ballot Status

To cancel your Permanent Vote by Mail status, please complete, sign, and return the Cancel Mail Ballot Status Application [pdf]. The cancellation application can be sent by mail or fax to the Elections Office.  You may also email the scanned form to us at MailBallots@sbcountyelections.com by scanning it and attaching it to an email.

3. Vote on Election Day at:

Emergency Voting:

If for any reason during the final 7 days before an election, a voter becomes ill or disabled or finds that they will be away from the polls on Election Day, the voter may submit a written request, signed under penalty of perjury, that a ballot be delivered to him or her.  This ballot shall be delivered by the Elections Official to any authorized representative of the voter who presents the written statement to the Elections Official. 

The voter shall mark the ballot, place it in the return envelope, complete, sign, and seal the envelope and return the ballot personally or through an authorized representative.  If the ballot is returned by the authorized agent, that portion of the envelope must also be completed.  The voter may also come into the San Bernardino County Elections Office and vote in person.

How to Emergency Vote:

1. The voter must download and print the Authorization to Deliver Mail Ballot to a Voter’s Representative Form.
2. Using the form, the voter must request a ballot then designate a representative to pick up the ballot for them.
3. Sign the form and have the representative bring it to the San Bernardino County Elections Office, 777 E. Rialto Avenue, San Bernardino CA 92415.
4. Upon giving our office the authorization form, the voter’s representative will be given the voter’s ballot to deliver to the voter.
5. Once the voter votes his/her ballot, the representative may return the voter’s ballot, sealed inside the yellow Vote by Mail envelope and signed by the voter and the representative on the back of the envelope.
6. Emergency ballots may be dropped off at the Elections Office or any of these mail ballot drop-off locations throughout the county.

Provisional Voting:

Provisional Ballots are provided in certain instances, including when a voter's registration cannot be immediately verified, or when a Mail Ballot has previously been sent to a voter. When a Provisional Ballot is voted and returned to the Elections Office, the voter's information is researched. Upon verification of the registration and information provided on the Provisional Ballot Envelope, the ballot is counted.
