Expedited Solar Permitting System

Purpose & Ordinance

On August 25, 2015 San Bernardino County adopted an ordinance to create an expedited and streamlined small residential solar energy permit process.  The adopted ordinance will encourage the installation and use of small residential solar energy systems and provide effective customer services to the constituents of the unincorporated areas of San Bernardino County.

(1) The project shall be no larger then 10 Kilowatts alternating current nameplate rating or 20 kilowatts thermal.

(2) The project shall conform to all applicable state fire, structural, electrical and other building codes as adopted or amended by the County and paragraph (3) of subdivision (c) of Section 714 of the Civil Code.

(3) The project must be installed on a single family or duplex family dwelling.

(4) Do not exceed the maximum legal building height as defined by the San Bernardino County Development Code.

(5) Ground Mount Solar Panel Projects do NOT qualify for expedited Solar Permitting.

(6) All Eligibility Checklist items must state YES.

(7) Standard Checklist & Standard Plans have been completed.
